Tik-Tok My Retro Clock

Barbara (Will's mom) gave us this really nice clock. I liked it as it was, but it didn't really go with our things so well. I wanted to keep some of its essence, but make it a little funkier. Here's how I did it...

  1. Take the clock off of the frame. Sounds easy right...wrong! The screws were so tight I was about to give up on the idea all together, but then my dad walked in and saved the day. In return I had to sew a loose button on one of his shirts. A fair trade any day!
  2. Use clock to trace circle on selected paper and cut out. I just used some scrap-book paper I already had.
  3. Cut the circle in half so that you can get it around the clock hardware at the center. You should actually be able to unconnect the hardware so that you don't have to cut the paper in half, but I wasn't able to with this clock so I chose to work around it.
  4. Mark the paper where you have to cut it out for the hardware to fit. Cut the small circles and check to see that both sheets line up.
  5. Mark each hour's location on the outer edge of the board so that you can place the numbers with ease afterword. Then glue both halves of the paper circles down. Make sure that the pattern lines up so that you will not call attention to the line.
  6. Using the markings on the sides add the numbers. I just used some metallic stickers. This was the hardest part. In retrospect I would have grabbed a protractor to draw a guideline first. Will made fun of me because some of the numbers are slightly off (oops).

Willie says my numbers are crooked and my sister (Natalia) says that she doesn't like the wood frame. On the other hand, my other sister (Julia) told me not to paint the wood frame.  I contemplated painting it, but I don't think I will. I think it looks good with the retro print. All in all, I am happy with the outcome. Now I just hope my numbers are placed well enough that the time is correct  : )

Update: Retro clock has unfortunately passed away. I basically hung it up on the wall improperly and it fell, shattering into a million pieces.
